Introducing a New Way for Young Players to Fall in Love with Soccer — Before It’s Too Late

Little Herd Soccer | Ages 18 months–6

For many young players, their first experience with soccer doesn’t build confidence — it quietly shapes how they feel about the game.

And too often, that first experience comes too late… or in the wrong environment.

By the time many children are introduced to soccer, they are already trying to keep up instead of simply learning to enjoy it.

Why the Early Years Matter More Than Most Realize

The foundation of a player’s development begins long before competition.

It starts with:

  • confidence
  • coordination
  • comfort with the ball
  • a positive emotional connection to the game

But most early-age programs are not designed for how young children actually learn.

They introduce:

  • too much structure, too early
  • drills without engagement
  • environments that prioritize instruction over exploration

And the result?

Players who hesitate instead of explore.

Players who follow instead of create.

Players who never truly fall in love with the game.

A Different Approach to Early Development

At The GOAT Farm Soccer Academy, we believe the introduction to soccer should look different.

Because when development is done right early, everything that follows becomes easier.

Instead of forcing structure, we focus on:

  • movement before mechanics
  • confidence before correction
  • enjoyment before expectations

This creates a stronger, more natural foundation for long-term growth.

Introducing Little Herd Soccer

Little Herd Soccer is the Foundation Stage of The GOAT Farm Player Development Pathway.

Designed for players ages 18 months to 6 years old, this program provides the ideal starting point for young athletes.

This is not just an introduction to soccer.

It is where players begin building:

  • coordination and movement skills
  • confidence in a new environment
  • comfort with the ball
  • a genuine love for the game

Led by Expertise in Early Childhood Development

Little Herd Soccer is guided by our Director of Early Childhood, Coach Ingrid, who brings over 9 years of experience working with young children.

As an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, she understands that every child develops differently — and ensures that each player feels supported, included, and confident.

Her certifications include:

  • Early Childhood Education (PreK–3rd)
  • Special Education (Infants–Adult)

This level of expertise allows the program to go beyond basic instruction and create an environment where young players can truly thrive.

What Makes Little Herd Different

Most early soccer programs focus on participation.

Little Herd focuses on development through experience.

✔️ Guided play instead of rigid structure

✔️ Confidence-building instead of pressure

✔️ Age-appropriate learning instead of early competition

Because players who enjoy the game early are far more likely to continue developing later.

Who This Program Is For

Little Herd Soccer is ideal for:

  • young children being introduced to soccer for the first time
  • parents looking for a positive and engaging environment
  • players who benefit from learning through play and movement

Why Starting Early Matters

The foundation stage doesn’t last forever.

These early years are where habits, confidence, and interest in the game are formed.

Waiting too long can make development more difficult later.

Starting the right way makes everything that follows more natural.
